Time Flies

I don’t know the exact date, but sometime in June 1997 was the last time I wore a skirt. I had a job interview but had already purged skirts, dresses, etc from my wardrobe. To look professional, I borrowed an old skirt and blouse from M. Probably got some shoes and stockings from Payless. Did I go so far as to wear a slip? No. My hair was natural, but I didn’t have locs then. I had little “buckwheat” looking plaits going every which way. My mother thought no one was ever going to give me a job with hair like that.

Thankfully, she was wrong.  I got the job and the outfit was officially retired (ie donated to the Salvation Army). I hope it did someone else some good.
